Widehorizons Outdoor Education Trust formed in 2004 as a result of a joint initiative on the part of the London Boroughs of Greenwich and Lewisham to find imaginative ways of breathing new life into some of the country’s finest outdoor education assets. The Trust has inherited a service at the forefront of providing an integrated outdoor environmental education service to schools.
The objects for which the Trust was established are to promote for the public benefit:
- The advancement of education and in particular environmental and outdoor education;
- The relief of poverty; and
- The provision of facilities for recreation, sport or other leisure time interests of social welfare for persons who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances with the object of improving the conditions of life of such persons.
The Trust aims to:
- Extend the opportunities for outdoor learning not only within schools but within the workplace and the wider community to promote active and healthy citizens
- Work with schools, colleges and employers to use our outdoor facilities to promote emotional intelligence, developing self esteem and confidence and problem solving and team building skills.
To deliver that vision it is essential that we are innovative, striving for the highest quality and range of courses. We must maximise the potential of the Charity to be inclusive and accessible to our diverse, multicultural community. We are investing in our facilities and buildings to make them modern and comfortable places to learn and live in.
