Bushcraft Skills and Using Tools in the Outdoors
This course will explore the benefits of using tools outdoors. Wide Horizons staff will introduce you to a range of hand tools such as billhooks, bow saws, fire strikers and fixed blade knives. Practical experience will be provided with a focus on safety, good practice and procedures. If you’ve done your Forest School training but not used tools much since then this will be a great refresher to rebuild your confidence.

Inspiration through Outdoor Storytelling
A practical and experiential day working with experienced Storyteller and Forest School Trainer Rich Sylvester – to develop your own storytelling skills and explore methods of storytelling outdoors to support a creative and playful approach to learning.
Hear and re-tell stories- solo, in pairs or small groups – Practice methods of story-making in a natural setting – Be playful, sing and tell using nature, body and voice to build language and story – Explore a range of stories: spontaneous, creative, oral and text narratives – Develop story techniques that suit your own ideas & practice – Reflect on teaching approaches that can inspire

Taking Learning Outside at KS2
This course will cover a multidisciplinary view of learning outside the classroom at Key Stage 2. We will introduce you to exciting outdoor Maths and English challenges and discuss how to set up and manage scientific fieldwork in woodland, aquatic and meadow ecosystems. Advice will be given on identifying local flora and fauna and the day will finish with an orienteering session that will highlight geographic links and help you develop your map work, compass and orienteering skills.

Wide Horizons Adventure Learning Conference 2018
Meet with likeminded Adventurous teachers at our Wide Horizons Adventure Learning Conference. You’ll be introduced to activities such as fire lighting, slack lining and Adventure Maths and English.
Wide Horizons tutors will demonstrate the way we provide Adventure Learning opportunities to over 40,000 young people each year and share ways you can do the same in your own educational setting.

General Course Information

Cost: £99, excluding VAT (or £79 -excluding VAT- if booked more than 2 weeks in advance). A non-returnable deposit of £20 will be needed to secure space.

Schedule: Courses start at 10:00am and end at 3:00pm with a break at lunchtime for approximately 30 minutes.

Provided refreshments on the day will include tea, coffee and biscuits. Attendees are required to bring their own packed lunch.
