Choosing your activity:

We offer a number of tried and tested programmes to suit your requirements, but these can be tailored to suit individual needs. 

We have programmes to suit Foundation Stage, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 groups which cover many of the main geography, history and science topics. All of our programmes support the National Curriculum in a fun and interesting way.

All you have to do is look at the activities section of this website and choose which topic you would like to study.

NB. If you are a school from the London Boroughs of Lewisham or Greenwich or a school from another local authority that has visited us in the past you will automatically be sent booking details in May for the following school year.

Cost of a visit

There are 2 elements to the cost of a class visit to Horton Kirby Environmental Studies Centre.

1. The Centre cost which includes a Centre Tutor to be with the class all day, use of a classroom throughout the day and at lunchtime, a full day of activities & the provision of all resources needed for activities.

2. The Coach cost which is the price of a coach booked on your behalf by us to bring you from school to the centre. This coach will stay at the centre all day and can be used for transport to an off site study locations during the day. This price is fixed for visits until Jan 09 after which there may be a small increase due to the rising cost of fuel.

Lewisham & Greenwich Schools

For all Local Authority schools within the London Boroughs of Lewisham and Greenwich the cost of a class visit to Horton Kirby in 2008/09 is £252

• Centre Cost-£120 per class (max 32)

• Coach Cost-£132 per coach (for visits before Jan 09 after which there may be a small increase)

Non Lewisham & Greenwich Schools

For all other schools (local authority or private) the cost of a class visits to Horton Kirby in 2008/09 is £277

• Centre Cost-£145 per class (max 32)

• Coach Cost-£132 per coach (for visits before Jan 09 after which there may be a small increase)

NB. It may be possible to reduce the cost of visits to the centre by booking 3 classes into the centre on the same day and sharing 2 coaches between them.  

Transport:

To make things as easy as possible for you we organise your transport to the Centre. It is booked by us on your behalf and means you are able to take advantage of our low cost transport we have been able to negotiate.

• All coaches are modern & fitted with safety belts.
• Coaches have 49 seats (53 available on request) to allow plenty of room for staff, children & accompanying adults.
• We use a team of regular drivers familiar with the local areas and our programmes.
• The coach remains with you for the whole day and is used when required for transport to our off site study locations.
• This service is included in the cost of your visit to Horton Kirby.
• Our regular coaches are not wheelchair accessible however it is possible for the centre to book wheelchair accessible coaches for visiting groups with sufficient notice. There is an extra charge for use of these coaches. Please note that for every wheelechair place needed, 4 regular seats are removed.

NB. It is possible for visiting groups to use there own transport such as school minibuses or to organise there own coaches. Please note any transport that is arranged by visiting groups would need to be be available for use by groups throughout the day to take groups to off site study locations.
