Information & Communication Technology
The Centre has a purpose built computer suite. ICT is an intrinsic part of the Centre’s programme and is used to enhance the skills of its visiting students and the practice of fieldwork. Below are selections of activities that show how ICT is used in the Centre.
Microclimate exercise
This is an investigation that focuses on the siting of a new bench or a set of solar panels. Using ICT, students are required to visit several sites within the grounds to investigate the microclimate. This activity allows pupils to combine a problem solving activity with digital recording equipment in the field and computers in the classroom! An imaginative and enjoyable exercise, which can be adapted for all students.
Shelter building
Using a template on the computer, students are encouraged to design a shelter. This design is then used to build the shelter in the field. Throughout the activity, students will develop skills in word processing, design and in using digital cameras.
