Wide Horizons offer a range of Walking Awards; from basic hill skills lading in lowland areas to leading hill-walking groups on mountainous routes.

Our Courses 

Lowland Leader Award (LLA)

This is an exciting new award aimed at those looking to lead groups in rural countryside and forest on footpath routes. The course will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to lead groups safely, to navigate a route and to manage hazards and features including roads and water.

Hill and Moorland Leader (HML)

This award trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead groups safely in non-mountainous terrain known as upland, moor, fell and down. This course is recognised and accredited for leading day walks for Duke of Edinburgh Award activities at Silver or Gold Level.

Mountain Leader Award (ML)- Summer

This award trains and assesses candidates in the skills required to lead hill walking groups safely in summer conditions on mountainous routes (above 600m), not requiring the use of a rope. This course is recognised and accredited for leading day walks for Duke of Edinburgh Award activities at Silver and Gold level.
