Ty'n y Berth Mountain Centres  Outdoor Learning Courses for Youth & Community Groups

…The Aims

Courses at our Centre are designed with the needs of young people in mind. Empowerment, Equality and Opportunity. We believe that young people think about what they want to achieve, rather than just which activities they want to do.

Be healthy - by encouraging active participation in a range of outdoor and adventurous activities. Gorge walking is an activity where all young people can engage at their own level. For the more adventurous, there is the option of a slightly more demanding wet gorge.

Stay safe - By understanding the nature of risk and reward, and by providing an emotionally safe environment, opportunities are created for mental growth. Rock climbing is an example of an activity how young people can take real responsibility for the physical safety of themselves and others.

Enjoy and achieve - By developing confidence and building on success, young peoples achievements help to build self esteem. Mine exploration is an activity where with support, young people can push their own personal boundaries and to achieve much more than their expectations.

Achieve economic well-being - by providing opportunities for young people to widen their horizons and to aspire to live their lives to the fullest potential. Whether the summit of Cadair Idris, or the top of Bird Rock, the feelings of accomplishment make a mountain day a good choice for motivating a group to want to achieve further success.

Make a positive contribution - Residential experiences at TYB develop social skills and an improved awareness of a young persons own personal qualities, and how that individual can make a difference to their life. We strive to ensure that young people feel empowered to make informed decisions, and through review and evaluation, make worthwhile contributions concerning their course.
